My Personal Views on Being Overweight

Growing up in today's society is very difficult. This is because we are very media oriented. The first thing people notice is the way a person looks. This happens whether you watch television or read a magazine. When a person looks good there are usually compliments that go along with this individual in some way shape or form. You might hear someone say "She looks good".. When a person is on the heavier side the statements that are made turn themselves in comments, which tend to be on the negative side. This is unfortunate.

I grew up in a household that lead to divorce. The way to console me and make me feel good was to feed me. This was a way to pacify the emotional turmoil that I felt by no longer having the traditional type family around me. This probably would have been easier if I was not an only child. Having no one to turn to made food my best friend. As I grew up I attended weight loss camps etc. only to gain the weight back, times ten.

I guess you can say that I never understood what it was to eat right. If there was an award for being a Yo Yo dieter I probably could have taken first prize. When it came to living my daily life being overweight constantly hindered me. For example,I was picked last during gym class or I was a wall flower when it came to going to singles functions. As far as online dating was concerned there always seemed to be some sort of a dilemma when it came to joining these dating sites. For example, what answer would I give when asked what I look like. Do I tell the truth and feel ashamed or do I lie to fit in? Since I have a kind heart and honest soul I made the earlier choice. Men seemed to like that I wore my heart on my sleeve. This was until they saw a picture of me. Once again to mask this I joined BBW personal ad sites. This way the people that I met knew that I was large sized. Boy did I hate words like that. These sites once again acted like a cushion (pardon the pun) and the people that answered me already knew that I was queen sized. Unfortunately all this lead to my physical attributes and I was not able to relay any type of message about what was on the inside of my being. Once again I blame this on society.

Bringing things current, on May 14,2008 I woke up and decided that I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. I felt sick and did not like the way I looked. I got on the scale which rose to a number that I never knew existed and said to myself that this was the day that I was going to do something about this. I looked at myself in the mirror and made a pact that I would join Weight Watchers. Someone would have to put a gun to my head if I was going to watch the scale go foward instead of going backward. That night I joined the Weight Watchers program. (note this is my own personal views) and have not turned back. I have now learned how to eat healthy and as a result I have lost 42 lbs in 8 months on the program.

Since this weight loss things have changed in a very positive way. People compliment my efforts and think it is wonderful that I made may mind up to do something. This time is the last time I am doing something like this. I want to win the Yo Yo battle once and for all. I look good and feel good too. Do not get me wrong. I have a lot more weight to lose but am on the positive road of this journey and now refuse to take any shortcuts. I am going to win. Tune into updates on my endeavors. Thanks for taking the time to read my first story.

Green Tea Energy Drink!

On Oprahs's April 10th show, Dr. Perricone promised her that just by replacing coffee with green tea she would
cut 10 pounds in six weeks. Oprah responded several weeks later "Now this is my kind of diet, and it worked!"

Each green tea package provides over 375mg of antioxidants, and works naturally as a powerful metabolism booster. Many
customers feel amazing with instant results in under one week. Great tasting flavour makes it a pleasure to drink.

For your information we have included a brief history of green tea:
Green tea is made solely with the leaves of Camellia sinensis, that has undergone minimal oxidation during processing. Green tea originates from China and has become associated with many cultures in Asia from Japan to the Middle East. Recently, it has become more widespread in the West, where black tea is traditionally consumed. Many varieties of green tea have been created in countries where it is grown that can differ substantially due to variable growing conditions, processing and harvesting time. Over the last few decades green tea has begun to be subjected to many scientific and medical studies to determine the extent of its long-purported health benefits, with some evidence suggesting regular green tea drinkers may have lower chances of heart disease and developing certain types of cancer.

Green teas have about a third the caffeine content, by liquid volume, of coffee. Green teas contain two caffeine metabolites (caffeine-like substances): theophylline, which is stronger than caffeine, and theobromine, which is slightly weaker than caffeine.

Tea consumption had its origin in China almost 5,000 years ago. Green tea has been used as traditional medicine in areas such as China, Japan, India and Thailand to help everything from controlling bleeding and helping heal wounds to regulating body temperature, blood sugar and promoting digestion.

The Kissa Yojoki (Book of Tea), written by Zen priest Eisai in 1191, describes how drinking green tea can have a positive effect on the five vital organs, especially the heart. The book discusses tea's medicinal qualities, which include easing the effects of alcohol, acting as a stimulant, curing blotchiness, quenching thirst, eliminating indigestion, curing beriberi disease, preventing fatigue, and improving urinary and brain function. Part One also explains the shapes of tea plants, tea flowers, and tea leaves, and covers how to grow tea plants and process tea leaves. In Part Two, the book discusses the specific dosage and method required for individual physical ailments.

According to research reported at the Sixth International Conference on Frontiers in Cancer Prevention, sponsored by the American Association for Cancer Research, a standardized green tea polyphenol preparation (Polyphenon E) limits the growth of colorectal tumors in rats treated with a substance that causes the cancer. "Our findings show that rats fed a diet containing Polyphenon E are less than half as likely to develop colon cancer," Dr. Hang Xiao, from the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy at Rutgers University, Piscataway, New Jersey, noted in a statement.

The Importance of Drinking Water

Researchers from Berlin's Franz-Volhard Clinical Research Center in Germany report that water consumption increases the rate at which people burn calories. After drinking approximately 17 ounces of water, the metabolic rate of the participants of the study increased by 30%. water

The kidneys need sufficient water to function properly, and when they are water deprived, the liver is overworked. One of the functions of the liver is to metabolize stored fat into energy, and cannot perform efficiently when compensating for the kidneys. The liver then metabolizes less fat which remains stored in the body. Studies have shown that a decrease in water intake will cause fat deposits to increase, while an increase in water intake can actually reduce fat deposits.

The human body consists of anywhere from 55% to 78% water depending on body size. To function properly, the body requires between one and seven liters of water per day to avoid dehydration. The precise amount of water required depends on the level of activity, temperature, humidity, and other factors. Original recommendation for water intake in 1945 by the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Research Council read: "An ordinary standard for diverse persons is 1 milliliter for each calorie of food".

Dehydration can lead to joint pain, backache, fatigue, depression, headaches, muscle cramping, and in severe cases of dehydration respiratory problems, vomiting, diarrhea, and unconsciousness can occur.

Water acts as a lubricant, protecting our joints and other body parts. Water is also good for your complexion, as it flushes out impurities in your skin. Water may also help to reduce sagging skin after weight loss by hydrating the skin and restoring elasticity. Good hydration will also improve muscle tone and increase the effectiveness of workouts.

The general rule is to drink 8 glasses of water, spread evenly throughout the day, and increase by 1 glass for every 25 lbs of excess weight. With active people, the intake of water should be increased accordingly to the level of activity.

What Are The Health Benefits Of Green Tea?

According to an ancient Chinese legend, a Chinese emperor discovered tea when leaves from a wild tea bush fell into a pot of water he was boiling. Green tea originates from China, and is also now cultivated in, India, Ceylon and Japan. It has recently become popular in Western countries where it has been more traditional to drink black teas.green tea

The health benefits of green tea have been extensively researched with thousands of studies archived and new studies continuously been undertaken.

Green tea and weight loss
Green tea can be helpful for dieters as it promotes fat loss, specifically visceral fat.

Visceral fat accumulates in the tissues lining the abdominal cavity and surrounding the intestines and internal organs, and is associated with increased risk for metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes.

The three ingredients in green tea that promote fat loss are catechins, caffeine and theanine that work by inhibiting the enzymes that digest triglycerides, which play an important role in metabolism as energy sources and transporters of dietary fat.

Green tea and diabetes
Other studies suggest that EGCG may help prevent type 2 diabetes, by lowering the production of free radicals, and by reducing the creation of glucose. A study published in the August 2004 issue of BMC Pharmacology, in which oral glucose tolerance tests were given to healthy humans after they consumed green tea, showed that it increased the body's ability to utilize blood sugar.

Green tea and cancer
The secret of of the healing properties of green tea are due to the catechin polyphenols, especially epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). EGCG is a powerful anti-oxidant, inhibiting the growth of cancer cells, with the ability to kill cancer cells without harming healthy tissue. EGCG accomplishes this by inhibiting the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR), which cancer cells need to be able to grow, and which happens to be a target of anti-cancer drugs such as Methotrexate.

The Morning Glory clouds photo

The Morning Glory cloud - is a rare meteorological phenomenon observed in Northern Australia's Gulf of Carpentaria. A Morning Glory cloud is a roll cloud that can be up to 1000 kilometers long, 1 to 2 kilometers high, and can move at speeds up to 60 kilometers per hour. The morning glory is often accompanied by sudden wind squalls, intense low-level wind shear, a rapid increase in the vertical displacement of air parcels, and a sharp pressure jump at the surface. In the front of the cloud, there is strong vertical motion that transports air up through the cloud and creates the rolling appearance, while the air in the middle and rear of the cloud becomes turbulent and sinks. The cloud can also be described as a solitary wave or a soliton, which is a wave that has a single crest and moves without changing speed or shape.

Fat Burning Diet to Lose Weight and Stay Healthy

Obesity and overweight are one of the biggest health issues of the new millennium. Not a month goes by without a new alarm being raised.
Faced with the macroscopic nature of the figures, (which speak of three out of ten people being overweight throughout Europe), one thing appears very clear: it's time to take the problem of those extra kilos very seriously.

Do-it-yourself diets and the random alternation between drastic diets and hyper caloric excesses subject the body to serious risks and do not guarantee lasting results.

Even worse, what's in danger, as the researchers of the Cuore project organized by the I Italian Ministry of Health tell us, is our health and even our lives.

Concrete measures need to be taken to begin to loose weight the right way, while gaining in health. To do so, the first thing is to try and make some clarity out of all the confusion present in the market today. Starting with collecting correct informations.

How many people do know that a person in order to significantly gain in health only have to lose 10% of body fat? How many people really know what to do to eliminate body fat?
